In class blog: Dominating win and return to glory

In my life I have three important things, God, family and football. #3 on that list took a significant turn towards greatness when my team (Florida State Seminoles) destroyed our rival (Florida Gators) 31-7. This was an extremely important win because if snapped 6 years of losing to them and showed that we are on the rise. Over the past 6 years we've lost to scores like 52-7, 52-10, so it was extremely pleasing to see us destroy them. This was also our coaches first season and he beat our two other rivals (Clemson, Miami). As far as i'm concerned it's been a great start as hes 3-0 against our main rivals now.

On top of my team's great victory, Boise State (who I despise almost as much of the Gators), showed that they really do suck and they play extremely weak competition. Boise State thinks that they had a right to go to the National Championship even though they play noone, however it was quite clear after they lost to Nevada that they are extremely overrated and if they did play a tough schedule (like most teams) they would be second tier.

Unit 3 Proposal

My team and I came up with a great topic and some great ways to make an argument for it. The issue we chose to enter the conversation of is the NFL fining players for helmet to helmet hits. Our stance on the conversation is that the NFL is becoming soft and needs to go back to its roots of good hard hitting football. Our primary audience's are Roger Goodell, the NFL's Commissioner, NFL fans and the NFL players themselves. In addressing these different audiences we have three different ways to reach them. We will write a formal letter to the Mr. Goodell expressing why the fines are excessive and some other preventative measures in addressing player safety. We want this letter to be formal and informative because he is the commissioner. NFL fans, we think we can reach with a billboard ad showing our stance on the fines we feel are making the NFL soft. Finally in addressing the NFL players we will make modified jerseys showing what the league will turn into if we keep fining players for playing good hard nose football.
The only thing I see being a problem for my group is that we have some grand ideas but I'm not sure if we can accomplish all of them. The team gets along great and given enough time and effort we will be very successful.

Blog: Visual Arguments

Pages 411-438 covers visual arguments that are made by various things. Some of the examples used are brands/logos such as the Presidential seal. If you were to see the presidential seal on a letterhead you would take it much more seriously then a letterhead from a convenient store. Other arguments are made as well such as the Mercedes as it's coined a "A visual argument on wheels". Mercedes is a popular high-class car that frequently sells because of it's visual argument. If it was ugly and looked like junk it wouldn't be purchased for such high amounts like it currently is.

I plan to use this knowledge in visual arguments within many of my own. Visual arguments aren't always used to just seem professional but can also be used to mock something. For our unit 3 project, we're going to be wearing pink cowboy uniforms which is certainly a visual argument. This will let everyone know that we are mocking the real Cowboys by turning their jerseys from blue and white to pink and changing the name to "Cowgirls". When writing the letter to Roger Goodell (the NFL Commissioner) I plan to make visual arguments by adding a seal possible and other arguments that will seem professional.

Group Description

My role within the group is to basically to take all the information and ensure it's edited properly. The role would be close to an editor without doing actual content changes. Some of the other roles such as recorder I will also take a turn doing. I think I am good with grammar, syntax and such and will be able to help the group if needed. I think that having multiple people view and edit a paper is great but focusing somebody solely on this issue will result in less mistakes as that's his primary focus. Mr. Bossman (David) will be handling most of the work overall, Austin is our artist and I'm our detail oriented guy.

In Class: Perfect Group Situation

I'm currently the Project Manager for my group in my Business Information Systems class and i've experienced alot of problems thus far. While there were many things instituted beforehand to prevent problems within the group, i've not yet seen how they really can help. I have a 5 person group that was in charge of creating a mock company, analyzing the industry and proposing an investment plan. I've noticed that many of the times when we try to meet after class I hear the "I have Tennis practice everday" or "I'm traveling here". I'd say 70% of the time i've attempted to get together with the group 3 of the 5 (who are all friends from another country) never show or can't make it. It's put a massive burden on me and my other group mate who has stepped up to make up work for them and basically do all planning and designing ourselves.

I think to combat this using class time, peer evaluations and the Prof staying active within the group will prevent some of this from happening.

Last day: Reflection

Through unit 2 I haven't had that much trouble finding primary sources for my paper. The Arizona immigration law is a extremely popular topic that many people in the world feel very strongly about hence the reason why there's so much information on it. The only real challenge that I was presented with was actually finding my third source. My first and second text chosen was the common perspective of Republican/Democrat, however my third was an outsider who takes perspectives from both sides.

As I started to right my paper I took a bit longer then expected to lay an outline for comparing the articles. Each text has different views but its tying these views together in the paper that I know will be challenging. I hope with the outline that I have I can stay true to proper organization while still providing vital comparisons between the three.
