Irritated is the first word that comes to mind when describing my first week. While I have thoroughly enjoyed the campus, each of my classes, the professors and the students I have been extremely overwhelmed by family commitments and the parking situation here at Texas Christian. While both may seem to not be related, there is a strong connection with both to my mood for the week.
Having just moved here from Hawaii, I don't really have all my personal affairs wrapped up and i'm lacking the stability that I crave. My wife just began her job this week and since we only have one car at the moment I have been like a taxi cab for her, taking her all over Fort Worth. Normally this wouldn't be an issue as I don't really mind driving however combined with the current situation with the lack of parking it's become increasingly frustrating.
Each day this week i've had to drive from Keller to my wife's office and drop her off around 8 AM. My first classes unfortunately start at around 11 on MWF and 12 on T-TR, so driving back home and getting stuck in traffic isn't an option. So there I wait for several hours each day, bored out of my mind until class starts. Once class starts I breath a sigh of relief only to learn that right after class I have to leave my well earned parking spot to drive my wife somewhere. Needless to say, that parking spot I held no longer is available upon my return. It's been a frustrating week...

Introduction: Writing Assignment
I believe my background and past is a bit different then the common student here at Texas Christian. Most students incoming to TCU have just finished up High School and are here to further their education. While the latter holds true for myself, the path from High School to our current location was much longer and different for me. While I wished to further my education like my peers, my path doesn't necessarily reflect the desire to do so as it led to a very different route.
After graduating early from High School, I joined the U.S. Army at the young age of 18. Though I enjoyed school, I struggled due to laziness, a general lack of discipline, unorganization and other undesirable traits that commonly lead to failure. Through my time in the Army I was forced to build upon these weaknesses and properly develop them. Laziness wasn't an option, as there was no choice in whether you could slack off as you were required to do the job and do it right. Lack of discipline improved dramatically in all aspects as respect/discipline is one of the main focal points of the military and again wasn't left with much choice. Being unorganized was something I learned not just from the Army but from maturing as an adult. I noticed how much easier some tasks were to complete when I was prepared.
After spending 7 years in the military, I finally ETS'ed (exited the military) with an honorable discharge. I decided that I would stay in Hawaii and make it my new home. After making the transition I believed it was finally time to further my education full time and enrolled for the next semester at Leeward Community College in Pearl City, Hawaii. After completing approximately 40+ credit hours there I thought of applying for a top business school and noticed TCU. I applied as a Junoir (pending credit transfers) and was excited to see that the Neeley School of Business had a reputable Accounting program.
I chose to take this course for several reasons. First and most importantly, I want to improve my writing ability as it's vital to the success of any student. Second, as many others this course is a requirement for graduation as it should be. I hope to not just become a better writer though but to also become a more analytical thinker as I believe improved writing promotes.
I don't use facebook/myspace very often but I do use instant messaging and cell phone texting frequently. I notice that alot of younger people who use these types of writing tend to use alot of slang or emotes that eventually begins to effect their ability as a writer in the classroom. To combat that, I always try to write text messages with proper punctuation, proper sentence structure, etc. It is very important that in all aspects of writing you try to improve and all of these writing methods have that possibillity.
My blog itself is simple yet displays the message. While I don't see myself adding a bunch of jazz and sparkles, I think that the background I chose matches the type of person I am. I believe that the writing gives you a better idea on the type of person that owns the blog rather then just the appearance of the blog.
Lastly, I have read and understand the syllabus/class rules.
